SK Hynix HFS001TD9TNI-L2A0A FC PC611 NVMe 1TB OEM Benchmark

Grabbed one of these to see if it would be good to be used as a cache drive for Unraid. It seems like a great choice to be used as a cache drive for FreeNAS or TrueNAS as well but the SK Hynix Gold P31 is cheaper and just barely out performs the PC611 in the benchmarks. See here for SK Hynix Gold P31 Benchmarks.

Real World Test

The following are incredibly simple tests. I created a 94GB zip file of Fallout 4 and transferred the game over to my test Unraid server. Both the Windows computer and my Unraid server are on a 10GbE network.

Transfer 1

Samsung 960 Pro > Hynix PC611. The GIF is sped up by 400%. This test allows us to test the WRITE speeds of the PC611.

Screen grab of the transfer for, #morejpeg.

Transfer 2

Same as Transfer 1 but in reverse, e.g Hynix PC611 > Samsung 960 Pro. This GIF is also sped up by 400%. This test lets us test the READ speeds of the PC611.

Screeen grab of the speed test above for better quality.

Conclusion

I think that because the Hynix Gold P31 is often cheaper and under $120 for 1TB, that it makes sense to seek that out first, especially with the small performance bump. If the PC611 is available for under $100 than it would be worth the investment IMO.
