ER8411 Poor Upload and Download Perfomance Fix

There seems to be an issue preventing anyone with 2.5Gb or 5Gb internet from achieving consistent and balanced throughput. Users have complained that they cannot get over 1Gbps upload bandwidth and in some cases extremely limited download throughput. Here is how I fixed this issue.

Note! Omada SDN Controller v5.8+ required.

Step 1

You will need to disown your ER8411 ( remove it from the Omada Controller Software ). The ER8411 will not install Firmware 1.1.0 through the cloud controller. See the Example below.

Anyway, once in standalone mode, you can update the firmware by going to System Tools > Management > Firmware Update tab

Step 2

After the ER8411 reboots you can now enable Flow Control. If you are using Firefox to update the ER8411, you may see get this error after updating the ER8411 with the latest firmware.

To enable Flow Control go to Network > WAN > SFP+ WAN1 tab > Enable Flow Control. Click the “Connect” button when done to ensure you have network activity.

Step 3

Re-adopt the ER8411 into the Omada Controller Software and you should be good to go from here. Results below.

See it to Believe it!

Troubleshooting

Still not seeing proper results? Try these things:

  • Factory Reset the ER8411

  • Downgrade the firmware to the previous firmware version, factory reset the ER8411, re-apply the firmware, and re-do all of the steps above.
